Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland

The Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland (the “Commissioner”) is an Independent Officeholder who is appointed by the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body (SPCB) with the agreement of the Scottish Parliament. The SPCB is seeking to fill this position when it becomes vacant on 1 April 2019.

The Commissioner is responsible for investigating complaints about the conduct of MSPs, local authority councillors, members of public bodies and lobbyists.

The Commissioner also regulates how people are appointed to the boards of public bodies in Scotland.

Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills, highly developed influencing and diplomatic skills, sound judgement and the ability to make incisive, fair and sound decisions.

This is a full-time appointment for a fixed term of 5 years, attracts a salary of £73k and is pensionable.

The Commissioner is based in Edinburgh.
